Alhambra Redevelopment Agency

The Plaza at Alhambra Renaissance Entertainment Center

Completed in November 2002,“The Alhambra Renaissance Entertainment Center”, includes a 67,300 square foot, 14-screen, 3,400 seat state-of-theart movie theater, an 811 space public parking structure and approximately 10,000 square feet of restaurant and retail space. The design incorporates a 20,000 square foot City-owned public plaza that features whimsical, mosaic tile design elements unique to Alhambra history and a synchronized water fountain.

With the goal of reinventing Main Street into an attractive retail, dining, and entertainment district, a Business Attraction Program was established by the Agency to attract both national and strong independent business tenants to the Downtown. The City has concentrated on diversifying the uses in the Downtown by encouraging a broad mix of complementary uses.

As part of its redevelopment efforts, the Agency entered into a public-private partnership to develop the northeast corner of Main Street and Garfield Avenue, historically the focal point of Downtown Alhambra, thatcreated the Plaza at Alhambra Renaissance Entertainment Center. What resulted was a modern community hub between restaurant row that dominates Main Street to the west of Garfield Avenue and the adjacent theater complex and soft good retailers to the east.

Today, downtown has blossomed with a restaurant row specializing in international and regional cuisine, shops and boutiques, entertainment venues, mixed-use developments, fitness center, and major retailers. Working towards reinventing the downtown, the City and Agency have taken an aggressive role in creating a more livable, pedestrian oriented district.

The Plaza at the Alhambra Renaissance Entertainment Center exemplifies a successful public-private partnership between the Agency and Hillcrest Development by working together to create a truly one-of-a-kind project for the community to enjoy.
