The San Jose Redevelopment Agency (SJRA) continues to be one of the most successful and effective agencies in California due to our ability to build partnerships with local businesses and the community, strengthen neighborhoods, assist San José schools and families and effectively implement the community’s vision. The Agency is dedicated to improving the quality of life for all who live and work in San Jose. Governed by the San Jose City Council, which acts as the Redevelopment Board, the Agency facilitates and oversees comprehensive programs for development to revitalize and strengthen the quality of life and competitiveness for San Jose’s downtown, neighborhoods and industrial areas. Since 1977, the Agency has invested more than $2 billion in public and infrastructure improvements, which includes projects such as the: Convention Center, City of San Jose/San Jose State University Joint Library, San Jose Arena, Children’s Discovery Museum, The Tech Museum of Innovation, Guadalupe River Park and Gardens and Highway 87. Neighborhood improvement programs are also a priority for the Agency. Since 2002, the Agency has invested more than $70 million in capital improvements, completing over 150 projects in the Strong Neighborhoods Initiative (SNI) Redevelopment Project Area. Through the City of San Jose Housing Department, the Agency has produced more than 11,000 units of affordable housing in San Jose, more than any other city in California, and more than 9,000 market rate homes in the neighborhoods and downtown San Jose. The Agency has also invested nearly $600 million in infrastructure that supports San Jose's innovative business community. San Jose's five industrial redevelopment areas are the engine of the City's economy, home to nearly 2,700 companies with more than 80,000 employees. The Agency's investments in project areas have spurred economic development and helped make San Jose the world's center of innovation.
San Jose Redevelopment Agency has been a member of the California Redevelopment Association since 1990.
