San Leandro, CA Residential Development - Special Needs (AIDS patients, etc.): City of San Leandro
The San Leandro Redevelopment Agency, formed in 1960 and comprised of three project areas, is managed by the Office of Business Development. In FY 2008-09, in the Plaza project area, a retail strategy was implemented for downtown San Leandro and work continued on a $4 million Downtown Lighting and Pedestrian Improvement Project. In the Joint project area, construction began on a Senior Community Center which will also serve as the City’s Emergency Operations Center, and designs were developed for a downtown parking garage. Additionally, a 1.7 acre blighted block was acquired to be used for replacement parking and then developed consistent with the City’s Transit Oriented Development Strategy. In the West San Leandro/MacArthur Boulevard project area, the Agency adopted a plan line and acquired a parcel for the Eden Road project. The Agency also provided design assistance and matching forgivable loans for façade improvements in all project areas.
