Whittier, CA Retail Development - Big Box: City of Whittier
The Agency administers four redevelopment project areas covering 1,400 acres in the City of Whittier. Within the Project Areas, there are two specific plans: Uptown Whittier and Whittier Boulevard. These areas represent the most future development potential. The Agency plans revitalization and densification of Uptown Whittier under the Plan approved in November 2008. The plan is a formed base code that promotes new retail and residential mixed-use opportunities within a pedestrian oriented landscape served by multiple parking structures and facilities. The City and Agency are also working diligently to facilitate the redevelopment of the 74-acre Fred C. Nelles Youth Correctional Facility that was closed in June 2004.
City of Whittier has been a member of the California Redevelopment Association since
1990.
